Theres often been a lot of debate about what is the rarest/ most expensive ne
doroid, as nendorids are usually a set price that went from 30 dollars to now about 60-80 dollars a piece. However depending on demand, character popularity, re-releases and availability they can skyrocket in price in the aftermarket. When people talk about rare nendorids the obvious come up like GSC Hatsune Miku, a one of a kind nendoroid (pictured below) however people tend not to talk about the nendorids that simply got lucky and went way up in the after market! I will be taking a look at both today!

Vocaloid - Hatsune Miku - Nendoroid - GSC ver. (Good Smile Company)

This nendoroid was given as a prize WonHobby at a 2009 9 Photoshoot competition to the winner! (I wish I was that winner!) One thing that bugs me about this nendorioid is it doesn't have orange eyes, however it's super cute and a holy grail for any nendoroid enthusiast. 

Armored huke MK2 - Nendoroid 

This is another common one to find on these lists, as it is also a OAAK nendoroid! This figure was designed by Japanese illustrator Huke, and it was made for a charity auction. It sold for roughly 1512.53 dollars Canadian. 

Yawaraka Sangokushi Tsukisase!! Ryofuko-chan - Ryofuko - Nendoroid #038 - OVA ver. 

This nendoroid is not a one off, and can be found on various second hand sites. I've even seen it float around on Mandarake a few times for about 200-300 dollars. However on many forums people say that about 4 years ago it was selling for 65000 yen, about 883 dollars CAD.  To get this nendoroid you had to buy all of the DVDs from the anime series, and inside the DVD was an application form. Each DVD came with a unique stamp which you would need 1 of each to fill out the application form, when that was sent in through the mail you would be entered in a draw to possibly win this nendoroid. That seems pretty tough, sort of like the Macdonalds monopoly or the equivalent of the car from Roll up the Rim to win! 

Naruto Shippuuden - Uzumaki Naruto - Nendoroid #872 - Animation Exhibition in China Ver. 

This figure is rare for a number of reasons, firstly it's Naruto, any fan favourite is bound to be sold out and in demand quickly afterwards. Secondly it's a special edition based off of an illustration by Kishimoto, in which Naruto is dressed up in a changshan. Lastly, and most importantly this figure was only released on the Chinese market, making it quite rare. However if you really wanted this figure, its price, although expensive, is doable for some if your a diehard fan. 

Vocaloid - Hatsune Miku - Nendoroid Jumbo - Metallic Ver.

This nendoroid is a jumbo version of Hatsune Miku, however unlike the regular version this version was limited to 40 pieces making it extremely rare. It was given to winning customers of Sumitomo Mitsui Card Company who spent at least 70,000 yen on their Hatsune Miku VISA card between the 9th of September and 31 of dec 2016. I personally have never seen this nendoroid on the aftermarket, although I'd love to have it! 

 

Death Note - L - Nendoroid #017

This nendorid may go down in price, since L recently got a 2.0 nendorid re-release. However this early nendorid of L was always in high demand for the limited quantity floating around after its release in 2007. With the popularity of the anime and the character everyone wanted to get their hands on this nendoroid making it's price go up. 

Kuroshitsuji - Sebastian Michaelis - Nendoroid #068 

 This is another case of a Nendorid of a beloved character from a classic anime that never got a re-release! As the fans for this show increased since this nendoroids 2009 debut, its price went up and it became scarce on the aftermarket. You can find it for a reasonable price if you do find it on re-sale sites and snatch it up quick! This is definitely worth it for Sebastian fans.

Fate/Grand Order - Saber - Nendoroid #600

This nendoroid was a Wonderfestival exclusive and was limited to 2000 units at the festival and available for online purchase for a short time period. This nendorid had a second release however the second release was named the B version by the company because it did not come in the special gold and blue box and did not include one of the faceplates from the original version. Fans can easily get the remade version, however  you will have to put forth more money for the special one! 

League of Legends - Ahri - Nendoroid #411 (Good Smile Company, Riot Games)

A collaboration between goodsmile company and Riot games, has had a few releases all ending with its price going way up on the aftermarket. 

Boku no Hero Academia - Bakugou Katsuki - Nendoroid #705 - Hero's Edition and Midoriya Izuku - Nendoroid #686 - Hero's Edition 

My Hero Academia gained an insane following very quickly in the west and in japan, hopping into mainstream very intensely. When these two nendorids were initially released they sold out but there was still a large demand. Re sellers were selling these nendoroids for 300-500 dollars each and people were actually buying them! This for sure was an interesting case, since then they have had a re release and the prices have went significantly down, however they are slowly climbing again. Not very rare or expensive now, but thought it was worth mentioning! 

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation - Neptune - Nendoroid #378 

This nendoroid was a DVD bundle and was a limited bonus. The game is fairly popular so this was in high demand. HOWEVER a re release was recently announced so if you are selling this nendo sell now! 

The following nendoroids will not include a caption because I do not have much to say on them however they are very expensive on the after market going way up in price from their initial release! Some of these are more hard to find then others however all tend to be scarce as they are often picked up quick, however thats not always the case. I have collected this information from second hand dealers like Mandarake, Ami Ami and ocassionally ebay (although please do not shop for nendorids on ebay!) Be prepared to see a parade of miku nendoroids (in no order) many have become rare and are released for special events etc! If you have any of these in your collection consider yourself lucky!
